Alexandre Magno is best know for his highly acclaimed choreographic work for
Madonna's Girlie Show and Emmy Nominated Drowned
World Tour. Alex is also greatly respected for
his artistic excellence and vision while working
with several U.S and International dance companies.
Most recently Alex has completed a Television
Special and U.S. Tour for Flamenco Guitarist
BENISE. This critically acclaimed show included
all Latin styles in both their traditional form
and Alex's own modernized version, styles included:
Flamenco, African, Salsa, Samba, Tango, and
a sexy Latin cabaret number. He recently appeared
on BRAVO TV directing and choreographing “The
Eternal” a short film; which was aired
as part of the “Forty Duce” reality
TV. He also choreographed “SWAY”
a music video for the Pussycat Dolls and choreographed
on the U.S. Hit television show "So You
Think You Can Dance."
In the beginning of 2006 Alex completed his
work on "Orfeu In The Carnival of Souls"
a full-length original ballet commissioned by
New York's Ballet Hispanico. In addition to
conceiving and choreographing the Ballet Mr.
Magno directed and produced the entire Sound
Track including several original tracks that
he co-wrote.
The company will be touring the US and internationally
with this piece in the coming season. “…The
premier of Alexandre Magno’s “Orfeu
in the Carnaval of Souls,” a Brazilianized
version of Orpheus’s descent into the
underworld by Ballet Hispanico, was splendidly
seductive. In one duet the lovers are so entangled
in swings and splits, they look like they could
get lost weaving through each other. Magno strikes
a balance between making moves too slick and
overly contemplative.

At times, the movement seems
so effortless it’s easy to forget the
troupe is melding drastically different techniques.
Jazzy leaps seamlessly blend with African-esque
contractions and Latin samba steps. In that
respect, Ballet Hispanico finds itself in a
similar realm with Alvin Ailey, whose “Revelations”
practically made African based pulses part of
the classical repertoire. The music, a wonderful
collection of samba, waltz, and Spanish guitar,
changes to match the creepy mood, setting an
uneasy tone to contrast the willowy love scenes.
“Orfeu’s” Broadway-style performance
adds pizzazz to this classic story and delivers
compelling, convincing characters.” --
Sara G. Levin, THE VILLAGER (December 7 - 13,
2005)
